Tok Mat: Police should probe Rafizi's confession of GE14 'incitement'

REMBAU: Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has urged police to investigate a claim by PKR deputy president Mohd Rafizi Ramli that he had instructed Dr S Streram to crash a police blockade during the 14th general election’s (GE14) nomination day.

Mohamad, or Tok Mat, said that the matter should be probed to clear the police’s image, which had been tainted due to the incident on April 28, 2018.

“Please investigate. All this while, Pakatan Harapan (PH) had continuously claimed that the police and the Election Commission (EC) had abused their power.

“I don’t know whether (the incident) can be regarded as sedition, but since Rafizi himself made the confession, it’s better to open an investigation,” he said.

Tok Mat added that Rafizi’s confession has confirmed his assumption that the incident was purposely staged by PH to paint a bad image of the country’s election system.

During a PH ceramah programme for the Rantau state seat by-election held here last night, Rafizi, who is also former Pandan Member of Parliament, confessed that he had incited PH candidate Dr S Streram to crash a police blockade after he was denied entry into the GE14 nomination centre at Dewan Sri Rembau.

Dr Streram was not allowed onto the premises because he did not have a candidate pass issued by the Election Commission (EC).

Meanwhile, Tok Mat also called for the EC to investigate an advance Hari Raya Aidilfitri cheque presentation event which was supposed to be held in Sendayan, yesterday.

He claimed that the event was cancelled at the eleventh hour after a police report was lodged on the same day.

“The event was supposed to be held in Sendayan, which is part of the area under the Rantau constituency.

“Why do they want to organise such an event now, in the midst of the by-election, when Aidilfitri is nowhere close? I hope this matter will be investigated by the EC” he said during a press conference held at Barisan Nasional’s command centre here, today.

It is learnt that state Youth and Sports Development Committee chairman Mohamad Taufek Abd Ghani was supposed to have attended the event.

On another matter, Tok Mat continued to maintain his innocence regarding a series of questionable luxury property purchases linked to him; as well as allegations that he had broken banking laws by transferring RM10 million via a money changer to purchase an apartment unit in London.

“The case had been investigated. I have nothing to comment (about it),” he said.
