BN's victory shows people's dissatisfaction towards PH, says Tok Mat

SEREMBAN: Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said his win in Rantau state seat by-election serves as a referendum of the people's dissatisfaction towards Pakatan Harapan government.

Mohamad said the instability of the ruling government, economy, and country's development have contributed to the rejection of the people towards PH.

“This is a good win for us. It’s reflective of the people’s regret and dissatisfaction towards the PH government. The people are not happy that promises were not fulfilled.

“The country has become regressive instead of being progressive, unemployment rates are increasing with no job opportunities provided as promised by the government. All these have become among the factors that have drawn the people back to BN, including the young voters," he said.

Mohamad said many youth voters were in favour of BN, and that has given the indication that the support from the youth has been restored.

“The youth voting stream used to concern us, but now we can see that these voters have been the major contributors to our victory.

“The youth are dynamic, not static and observant of the current political situations. And looking at the performance of the government, they are frustrated,” he said.

Mohamad added that his victory has also sent the signal that the people are tired of the endless attacks launched by PH towards him during the two-week Rantau by-election campaign.

“It's not taking them (PH) anywhere,” he said, adding that BN will continue to play the role as an effective opposition, and to conduct the check and balance on the ruling government to ensure that the country can progress well.

Mohamad won the Rantau by-election with 10,397 votes with a 4,510 majority over his main rival, PH's Dr S. Streram, who garnered 5,887 votes.
