Daughter of late Stephen Wong to contest in Sandakan by-election

SANDAKAN: Vivian Wong, the youngest child of late Sandakan Member of Parliament, Datuk Stephen Wong Tien Fatt has been named to represent DAP in the upcoming Sandakan by-election.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal made the announcement during a townhall session at Sandakan Community Hall, here, today.

The 30-year-old, a Communications graduate from Murdoch University in Australia, is a special officer at the Health and People's Wellbeing Ministry.

She has been an active DAP member and also involved in campaigning alongside his father during the 14th General Election.

DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang and secretary general Lim Guan Eng were also present at the townhall session.

The Sandakan parliamentary seat fell vacant after Wong died of heart attack on March 28.

In GE14, Wong had obtained 19,094 votes, defeating Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Lim Ming Hoo who garnered 8,996 votes.

Sandakan has 39,777 registered voters — 49 per cent Chinese, 44 per cent Muslim Bumiputera and six per cent non-Muslim Bumiputera.
