PETALING JAYA: The PKR disciplinary board will issue a show-cause letter to Muhammad Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz tomorrow for his alleged involvement in a sex video.
Its chief Datuk Ahmad Kasim said Haziq, who is the Santubong PKR Youth chief, would have 14 days from today to respond to the letter.
“The show-cause letter is issued to Haziq for tarnishing the party’s name with his public confession, which has damaged the reputation of the party leadership.
“We also take note of party deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali’s denial, and will examine his explanations, if any.
“We will wait for investigations by the police or any other relevant authorities,” he said after a political bureau meeting at PKR headquarters here, today.
The disciplinary board, Ahmad said, also warned all members not to make baseless statements about the party leadership.
Meanwhile, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the political bureau had achieved a consensus on the decisions made by the disciplinary board.
“The attendance was almost full, except for Azmin. We respect (differing) views but the decision stands as decided by the board,” he said.
Party leaders in Sabah and Sarawak, he added, had also supported the decision by the leadership.
“There were other views expressed prior to today’s meeting but today, the political bureau has made it clear that the decision of the disciplinary board is endorsed and supported by all whom are present.”
Anwar, who is also Port Dickson member of parliament, said the party would leave the investigation to the police, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, and other relevant authorities.
“We as a party reject gutter politics and we express sympathy to him (Haziq) and his family,” he added.
Last Tuesday, a WhatsApp group spread several video clips of two men having sex.
The following day, Haziq confessed that it was him in the video and alleged that the other person was Azmin, who is also Economic Affairs Minister.
Azmin had denied the allegations, saying that it was part of a plot to destroy his political career.
Police are investigating the case under Section 292 (sale of obscene material), 504 (intent to provoke beach of peace) and 377B (carnal intercourse against nature) of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or network service.
Police this week detained Haziq as he was waiting to board a plane to Manila. Haziq was later released on bail.
