Boycott on as Azmin, Zuraida snub last day of PKR congress

MELAKA: PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, who left the 2019 Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) National Congress in protest yesterday, is a no-show on the final day of the convention here, today.

Also absent are vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin; Wanita chief Haniza Mohamed Talha; deputy Youth chief Muhammad Hilman Idham; and Central Leadership Council (MPP) members Amirudin Shaari, Mohd Rashid Hasnon, R Sivarasa, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah and Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar.

Azmin, Zuraida and Haniza had been scheduled to deliver their winding up speeches before president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, today.

On Saturday, hundreds of MPP members and delegates abruptly left the conference hall in protest at the party leadership, triggering an unprecedented crisis for the 20-year-old party.

The policy speech debate session saw several MPP members leave the stage, as hundreds of delegates exited the conference hall in stages, leaving half of the seats unoccupied.

According to Azmin yesterday, he had left the congress’ debate session after it turned into a bashing free-for-all against him.

Meanwhile, Anwar and PKR Advisory Council chairman Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail arrived at the Melaka International Trade Centre at 8.57am today for the congress’ winding up session.
