Dengkil rep unfazed by drug arrest controversy

KUALA LANGAT: Adhif Syan Abdullah, who was reportedly arrested early Sunday over an alleged drug offence in Puchong, is determined to continue serving as Dengkil state assemblyman.

The 39-year-old Adhif, who is a first term state assemblyman and Selangor Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Youth chief, said he was unfazed by the controversies surrounding him.

“Working for the rakyat is my priority and I will hold on to my responsibilities as an elected representative.

“I already have several programmes lined up such as discussions pertaining to the wellbeing of the rakyat and issues involving my constituency today.

“Work is as usual for me. I will keep my spirits high and be responsible to the people with the trust mandated to me.

“I will not let this affect me although this is the biggest challenge that my family and I have to face,” Adhif told the New Straits Times today.

Adhif said he has not been called by the police to have his statement recorded so far.

After news of him being arrested for allegedly testing positive for drugs went viral, Adhif said he contacted Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

“He gave me words of encouragement and space to calm down,” added Adhif.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said Adhif will dispense his duties pending the results from the Chemistry Department.

Amirudin hoped the relevant authorities will conduct the investigations fairly and without fear or favour.

“Until then, he is innocent until proven guilty. So his work as a state assemblyman is as usual. I hope he will carry out his duties well and he will not be affected with the issues surrounding him.

“So far, he has not admitted (to committing the offence). So I will give space to him to prove it through legal means.

“However, if he is found guilty, we hope there will be action taken against him in accordance to the state and country's laws; and for Bersatu and Pakatan Harapan (PH) to decide on his fate.

“No one is above the law and even Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (Prime Minister and Bersatu chairman) had stressed on this principle yesterday. We are on the same page ,” said Amirudin in Bandar Saujana Putra today.

Amirudin, who is Selangor PH chairman, said the matter will be discussed at the state and national levels.

He said the matter will also be raised in the state PH meeting expected to take place early February.
