Melaka Chief Minister Adly Zahari loses his job

KUALA LUMPUR: Melaka Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Datuk Seri Utama Dr Mohd Khalil Yaakob has rejected a proposal from Chief Minister Adly Zahari for the state assembly be dissolved to pave the way for fresh state elections.

State government secretary Datuk Seri Hashim Hasan in a statement said the Yang di-Pertua Negeri had received a representation that Adly had lost the confidence of the majority of the state assembly members.

He said based on Article 7 (4) of the Melaka State Constitution, the Melaka Chief Minister as such should step down from the state executive council.

Hashim said the Yang di-Pertua Negeri by virtue of Article 7 (2) (a) would appoint from the state assembly a member who has the confidence of the majority as the next Chief Minister.
