Langkawi Bersatu division intact, says vice chief

LANGKAWI: Langkawi Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has denied allegations that it was dissolved following the resignation of its division leadership.

The division's vice chief Hashim Md Noh said the party was still intact in the island and functioning as there were still nine valid divisional committee members as per minimum requirement of the party constitution.

"The dissolution of the division does not arise as was reported, in fact the claim that 22 out of the 25 division committee members had resigned was also not accurate.

"The committee members who stepped down, includes the division chief Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as well as 13 out of the 22 division committee members," he said in a press conference on Monday night.

Hashim said the party's strength in Langkawi was still intact because there are nine committee members including the Youth Wing Chief (Armada), Amar Pared Mahamud and the Deputy Srikandi Chief, Rohaiza Sharif who remained with the party.

"According to the party constitution Article 19 (19.9), the Deputy vice-chief will be the acting division chief in the absence of the Division Head or Deputy Division Head.

"So, the allegation that the Langkawi Bersatu Division was crippled and dissolved is untrue and baseless," he said.

He said only 200 out of 4,600 Langkawi Bersatu Division members had walked out of the party and the party's Armada and Srikandi wing as well as grassroots are still intact.

"To smoothen the party machinery, we appointed, Kuah state assemblyman, Mohd Firdaus Ahmad as secretary and Ayer Hangat state assemblyman, Juhari Bulat as treasurer.

"Also appointed is Ahmad Nazlan Abu Hassan as the information chief and four committee members, thus the division leadership is up to strength, led by 16 individuals," he said.

Last Sunday, it was reported that 22 Langkawi Bersatu Division members walked out from the party leading to the party unit in the tourist island becoming crippled.

Among those who quit includes Deputy Division Chief, Shukor Bahari; Secretary, Azlina Mansor; Treasurer, Jamari Mahtar and Information Chief, Zamree Yahya.
