Khairuddin tells critics to await Health Ministry statement over his alleged quarantine violation

KUALA TERENGGANU: Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali has urged all to wait for a Health Ministry (MoH) statement over his alleged violation of a 14-day mandatory quarantine order before commenting on his case.

The Kuala Nerus Member of Parliament is alleged to have violated his compulsory isolation period after his recent return from Turkey, when he attended Dewan Rakyat proceedings early this week.

Khairuddin said that he will comply with guidelines, rules and instructions set by the MoH.

"Just wait for the statement, including the official results of the Covid-19 test conducted by MoH.

"As a responsible Cabinet minister, I will abide by whatever statement that is issued by the MoH," he said when met after being awarded the Honorary rank of Commissioner in the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) here, on Wednesday night.

Khairuddin's alleged quarantine violation was a hot topic in Dewan Rakyat and among netizens on various social media platforms on Wednesday.

The Pas working committee member said he had undergone the Covid-19 test at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) upon returning from an unofficial visit to Turkey between July 3 and 7, before attending the Dewan Rakyat sitting on July 13.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah confirmed that the ministry is investigating claims that Khairuddin did not undergo the 14-day quarantine period upon returning from abroad.

On Tuesday, Seputeh Pakatan Harapan Member of Parliament Teresa Kok claimed that the minister had visited Turkey on an unofficial visit from July 3 to 7, but had attended Parliament only a week later.

At the time of Khairuddin's alleged visit, Turkey had been averaging over 1,000 new Covid-19 cases a day and as of Aug 18, it has 251,805 confirmed cases, with 12,876 active cases.

Malaysians and other nationals returning to the country must undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine period at designated isolation centres.
