Sabah 2020: Warisan's Leiking leaves it in the hands of the people

PENAMPANG: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) deputy president Datuk Darell Leiking received a warm welcome from constituents when he turned up at the SK Sugud voting centre here, today.

Arriving at 9.18am, the Penampang Member of Parliament took his time greeting voters and entertaining their requests for 'wefies'.

Like others, Leiking underwent a body temperature check and had his hands sanitised before being allowed to proceed to his voting channel.

Speaking to reporters later, he said he was happy to see the positive response on the ground.

"We hope for the best and that we will not face any problem. I'm also glad that everyone is following standard operating procedures," he said.

When asked about rumours that several Warisan leaders may quit the party, Leiking said he had not heard the news.

"People usually come and go. We wish them luck if it's true, but we hope that's not true. If it's true, what can we do?

"What's important is like what (Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd) Shafie Apdal said, we return the mandate to the people.

"In this election, it's up to the people who they want as the state government. I hope the people are decisive," he added.

Leiking is contesting the Moyog seat in a seven-cornered fight.

He is facing Joe Sulaiman of Perikatan Nasional and John Chryso Masabal of Parti Bersatu Sabah.

Other candidates are from Parti Cinta Sabah, the Liberal Democratic Party, Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah, and an independant hopeful.
