Politicking will only undermine efforts to fight Covid-19, says Pas VP

KOTA BARU: Any politicking that could destabilise the country will put the ongoing efforts to fight Covid-19 pandemic in jeopardy, Pas vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah warns.

He said such move would not bring any benefit as Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has already expressed his stance on the issue.

He said it was also in the line with the King's call to all quarters particularly politicians as well as Members of Parliament (MPs) to ensure no interruption to the efforts made in combating Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

"All quarters must understand what the King meant when he said so. Yang di-Pertuan Agong wants us, especially politicians, to focus on the country's stability and not disrupt efforts made by the current government to fight Covid-19.

"The King also wants certain quarters to stop their politicking no matter which political parties they are from.

"This is the time for all of us to give priority to the people's health and if they intend to hold general election, they could do so after all the problems are solved," the Deputy Kelantan Menteri Besar told reporters before attending state assembly pre-council meeting at JKR 10 here today.

Al-Sultan Abdullah yesterday decreed that there is no need for an emergency proclamation to be declared nationwide or any parts of the country.

Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin was reported to have said he Yang di-Pertuan Agong is of the view that the government has managed the Covid-19 pandemic, which has entered the third wave in several parts of the country, well and effectively.

Ahmad Fadil said the King believed that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was capable in implementing policies and enforcement measures to contain the pandemic from escalating.
