Don't take Anwar's leniency for granted, says Saifuddin

SHAH ALAM: PKR leaders who will relinquish their respective posts today to make way for new office bearers are leaving behind several important messages to their successors.

The 2018-2022 PKR Wanita chief Fuziah Salleh reminded party members and leaders to remain loyal to the party and leaders they voted for in each party election cycle.

The former deputy minister told party members to avoid repeating the same mistake of airing PKR's dirty linen in public while urging them to stop providing "easy bullets" to their enemies.

"Don't simply go on Facebook and rant or release one statement after another. Don't you know how to keep things to yourself? Do you have to tell all your stories to everyone?

"When you want positions, you talk loudly, but where were you when everyone else was on the ground? We saw this happening in the past state elections.

"Just because they didn't get to be the candidate in the election, they pulled the hand brake. What is this? Do you know the meaning of justice (keadilan)?

"You just want to be a candidate and work for yourself instead of the party. Whose logo do you carry in an election? It's not your own, but it is the party's which means when we do work, we do it for the party," she said in her closing remarks on the last day of the 16th PKR national congress which is being held here today.

Fuziah, who is the Kuantan member of parliament (MP), proposed to the top party leadership to place such problematic members on the party's blacklist and prevent them from contesting in any election.

"Whoever likes to post everything on Facebook intending to bring our party down should be blacklisted and their names sent to the disciplinary board.

"We should only appoint candidates who want to work for the party instead of themselves."

Former secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution in his closing remarks also sent a powerful message on respect.

He said the new line-up should not take PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's leniency for granted, adding that they must understand the meaning of leadership and the importance of showing their utmost respect to a leader.

Saifuddin, who is Kulim Bandar Baru MP said the new leaders must instill at least two important traits in themselves - respect and manners.

"Anwar is a person who is always open to attacks and criticisms, but please do it with manners. Even in our solat (prayers), we can tell the 'imam' if he makes a mistake.

"We can even tell our parents, teachers or leaders when they make mistakes, but we must do this with respect and good manners.

"So, if we can speak our mind to our imam in the middle of a prayer, why can't we say anything to Anwar? Of course, we can but what's important is our 'akhlak' (morals)," the former cabinet minister said.
