Anwar promises to cut salaries, allowances for ministers and reduce Cabinet size [NSTTV]

IPOH: Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the first thing he would do as prime minister was to reduce the salary and allowances of the prime minister.

He also promised to take similar action on the ministers while also promising to reduce the number of the Cabinet members.

"This is my willingness and it is not be impossible because the people are aware. If you want Anwar to be the Prime Minister, the Cabinet has to be reduced and the prime minister's and ministers' salaries have to be reduced because we want to be a good example.

"Let me give my guarantee, if on November 20, (when) I am chosen as the prime minister, the first thing I would do is to cut the salary and allowance of the prime minister. I want to say that in the current economic situation, I could not take the salary now. We have to present a leadership that loves the people, only then would the people love us," said Anwar.

He said this in his speech at the PH National Convention at the Ipoh Convention Centre here last night.

Also present were Parti Keadilan Rakyat Advisory Council chairman Datin Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, DAP secretary general Anthony Loke, PH secretary general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution, United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation president Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau and Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu.
