GE15: It will not be known as a PH govt, says Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reiterated that the coalition government formed under his leadership will not be known as the 'PH government'.

"There will not be a DAP nor a PH government. It will be a coalition government," he said at the Seri Pacific Hotel today.

He also played down Perikatan Nasional's claims that it had managed to form a majority support of 112 members of parliament.

"We are still the coalition that gained the biggest bloc in GE15 and we are quite comfortable with the numbers secured," he said.

When asked about caretaker defence minister and Sembrong member of parliament Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein's statement that he would not work with PH, Anwar said the latter would change his stance against supporting him after today's negotiations.

"We did stress the importance to form an inclusive government and we still require the support of all parties.

"The fundamental issue here is that there will be no compromise in the issue of governance. We have to move on for the good of the country and to protect the people's interests," he said.

Earlier, leaders from PH and BN had gathered to discuss the formation of a unity government, as no coalition was able to secure a simple majority to form a federal government.

Among those seen attending were BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu.
