Noraini Idris is new Sabah Umno Wanita chief

KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Noraini Idris has been appointed as the new Sabah Umno Wanita chief for the 2023-2026 term.

This was announced at the Umno Wanita Exco meeting yesterday at the party headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

Noraini began her political career when she joined Umno in 2001 and served as a leader in state Puteri Umno where she was appointed as a secretary and later as Penampang Puteri Umno Chief.

In 2004, she was elected as an exco member of Puteri Umno Malaysia.

Noraini was later elected as the Chief of Umno Wanita in Penampang and also as the Sabah Umno Wanita information chief.

On Dec 9, 2021, she was elected by the Sabah State Legislative Assembly to become a Member of the Malaysian Senate.

Noraini said that her appointment was a great responsibility and required the support of all parties, especially the leaders of Umno Wanita at all levels, especially in Sabah.

"I understand that this responsibility is not easy, but I am confident that with the high spirit of teamwork from Umno Wanita leaders at all levels, we will ensure that the wing will remain at the forefront of the party.

"Let's ensure the continuation of this sacred struggle and to restore the power that we once had," she said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Sabah Umno chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin congratulated those who were newly appointed.

He said that the appointments would further strengthen the role of the party at all levels.

"Congratulations to those who have been appointed, consider this appointment as a great responsibility to the party with a strong fighting spirit, and uphold the principles of loyalty and priority to the party," he said.
