Sanusi apologises to Sultan of Selangor

KUALA LUMPUR: Caretaker Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has sent a warkah (letter) to Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to explain his remarks that were allegedly insulting to the Selangor royal institution.

Sanusi also apologised to the sultan of Selangor.

The Pas election director, however, claimed the comments he made during a Perikatan Nasional (PN) ceramah recently were twisted by agents of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) to cause a misunderstanding.

"As soon as I found out that my speech had been spun by agents of PH/BN, I immediately sent a warkah to His Majesty the Sultan of Selangor to explain the context, the actual meaning as well as the field covered in my speech, which was deliberately twisted (by his political foes).

"In the warkah, I started off by apologising and seeking forgiveness while hoping that the wrath of the DYMM Tuanku Sultan Selangor would not arise due to the issues that were deliberately raised from the speeches (that Sanusi made during the ceramah).

"In addition, I pray for the good health of the Sultan of Selangor as well as the Tengku Permaisuri Selangor," said Sanusi in a social media posting that was shared on his official Facebook account early today.

Sanusi added that he was informed by the palace that the Sultan of Selangor granted his consent to receive and read his warkah yesterday.

"It is not appropriate for me to upload the warkah here (on his social media) to preserve the nobleness of the Sultan of Selangor as well as to maintain the customs and manners in dealing with the Istana," he said.

Sanusi also confirmed that he had given his statement to the police at about 2am yesterday to complete an investigation into the report launched by PKR Youth and other parties.

"I am sharing the information here to all who are interested in the development of this issue," he said.

The apology from Sanusi came on the heels of several police reports lodged against him as well as criticism including from Pas spiritual leader Datuk Hashim Jasin, who was quoted as telling the caretaker Kedah menteri besar and other party leaders to watch their language when commenting on the 3Rs - race, religion and royalty.

It was also reported that police have launched an investigation into Sanusi for the remarks he allegedly made during the ceramah.
