'I am ready to face action', says Bersatu's Gua Musang MP

KOTA BARU: Gua Musang member of parliament Mohd Azizi Abu Naim is leaving it up to the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) leadership to decide about his move to support Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Azizi, who is one of the six Bersatu lawmakers who had pledged their support to the prime minister without quitting the party, said he will accept any decision made by the party with an open heart.

"As a party member, I faithfully uphold and respect the party's constitution and respect the party's leadership.

"I am ready to face action following my decision to support the prime minister. As an elected representative, l was entrusted by the people in Gua Musang to look after their welfare. I am not interested in politics all the time, so give me the opportunity to serve the community in my area."

He said guaranteeing the wellbeing of his constituents is a priority in his political career.

"I am sure that my voters will understand and will support my decision in supporting the prime minister," he added.

Another Bersatu MP who had declared his support to Anwar was Jeli MP Zahari Kechik.

When contacted by the New Straits Times, Zahari refused to comment on the matter.

On Jan 29, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the party would take legal action against MPs who have betrayed the party.

He had said this was decided during the special meeting of the Bersatu Supreme Council.

He added the party also agreed to take legal action against any of its elected representatives who betray the party. Hamzah had also said that Bersatu is prepared to face any possibility of by-elections.

Although the statement did not explicitly reference anyone, it is believed that Hamzah was referring to the six MPs who declared their support for the unity government under Anwar's leadership.

The other four Perikatan Nasional elected representatives who threw their support behind Anwar are Tanjong Karang MP Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi, Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), and Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).
