Bersatu Supreme Council to meet tonight over 4 MPs who switched support

KUALA LUMPUR: The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Supreme Council will hold an emergency meeting tonight following the declaration of support by four of its members of Parliament (MP) for the unity government.

Its chairman,Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin claimed there was an organised plan by their political rivals to undermine both his party and the coalition by employing tactics involving bribery and threats targeted at its members.

"I have received information indicating a deliberate strategy by the opposing party to weaken Bersatu and the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition through bribery and intimidation against Members of Parliament.

"Bersatu will not yield to this unholy alliance, and we are prepared to take stronger measures," he said in a statement today.

He also condemned the action of the four MPs, stating that it contradicted the party's stance and represented a serious breach of party discipline.

"This is a serious violation of party discipline, aside from betraying the mandate of the people who elected them based on their belief in the principles of the Perikatan Nasional struggle.

"I call upon Bersatu members to remain calm and steadfast in upholding the party's principles while the top leadership handles this matter," he said.

Earlier, media reported four MPs from Bersatu pledged their support to Anwar's government in the interests of their constituents.

They are Jeli MP Zahari Kechik, Gua Musang MP Azizi Abu Naim, Labuan MP Suhaili Abdul Rahman, and Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid.

Following this, Bersatu suspended Suhaili for six years and Iskandar Dzulkarnain for four years.
