Bukit Gantang MP supports unity govt and Anwar, pending funding approval

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Gantang member of parliament (MP) Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal said he would support the unity government and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim if his request for funding for the constituency was granted.

The Perikatan Nasional (PN) MP from Bersatu said he wanted to see "to what extent the Madani government is fair in granting requests".

"If my request for the RM30 million funding to develop my constituency is approved, I will declare my support for the Prime Minister and the Madani government," he said while concluding his debate at the committee level for the Rural and Regional Development Ministry.

The Bukit Gantang MP said that his constituency met four of the five criteria for receiving Ministry development funding.

He said the residents in Bukit Gantang would be required to commute to Kuala Kangsar for official engagements or purchasing necessities.

"First, I want to justify my area (Bukit Gantang) as rural; it is not even a town. The population comprises 30 per cent farmers, 30 per cent fishermen, and 30 per cent factory workers," he said.

Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz said he was seeking RM5 million to transform the current education facility into a skills education centre, with an additional focus on men's clothing sewing and automotive skills.

"There is no full-fledged academy, no Mara Skills Institute (IKM) in Bukit Gantang.

"There are 35 kindergartens in Bukit Gantang, and I request an allocation of RM30,000 for each to carry out maintenance work totalling RM1,050,000," he said.

Syed Abu Hussin said he had facilitated three groups of entrepreneurs cultivating banana and sweet corn plantations, developing oyster and snail farming and were interested in venturing into agro-tourism.

"All three groups want to be role models; I request an allocation of only RM30,000 for each group, totalling RM90,000," he said.

He also demanded street light installation, road development, and mosques and restroom facilities upgrade.

Previously, four federal lawmakers from the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition— Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan) and Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) — declared their support for the Madani government.

The four MPs declared their support on the basis of receiving allocations to prioritise the well-being of their constituents.
