Kemaman by-election: Straight fight between Terengganu MB and ex-defence chief

CHUKAI: The Kemaman parliamentary by-election will see a straight fight between Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar of Pas and Barisan Nasional's (BN) direct candidate general (R) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor.

The matter was announced by Kemaman by-election returning officer Ahmad Farhan Abdul Wahab after the nomination process concluded and closed at 10am today.

Fondly known as Dr Sam, Ahmad Samsuri who is also Pas vice-president was accompanied by former Kemaman member of parliament Che Alias Hamid and Chukai assemblyman Hanafiah Mat when he submitted his nomination papers at the Kemaman municipal council's Berlian Utama hall here.

Che Alias and Hanafiah are the proposer and seconder of Ahmad Samsuri's nomination for the Dec 2 by-election.

Raja Mohamed Affandi was accompanied by his proposer who is Terengganu BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Said and seconder Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabeery Cheek.

The parliamentary seat became vacant following the decision Terengganu Election Court to annul the victory of Che Alias during the GE15 after petitioner succeeded in proving that corruption aimed at infuencing voters took place during the general election.
