Mat Sabu: Anwar's leadership will remain until GE16

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Amanah Negara has expressed confidence that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's leadership in the unity government would remain intact until the 16th General Election (GE16).

Its president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, who is fondly known as "Mat Sabu", said his confidence in this was based on the support of the civil service towards the unity government.

"The votes from civil servants for us (previously) were severely affected following allegations that the government would change after the state elections in six states, (but) there was no change in the government.

"I am confident that after four years (until GE16), the (unity) government ) will not change, and civil servants will continue to be with us," he said while launching the National Amanah Youth Convention 2023 in Bangsar South here today.

Meanwhile, Mohamad, who is Agriculture and Food Security Minister said the voting base held of component parties in the ruling government can be found in Sarawak, Johor, Melaka and Penang.

He said these states continue to support the government.

"Look at the political developments and the atmosphere, God willing, there will be a sufficient majority to form the government (after GE16).

"But what about Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah and Perlis? In these four states, we only have one parliamentary seat, namely Sungai Petani.

"It means we cannot continue to be the government without the support of the Malays and the Muslims," he added.

Earlier today, Mohamad launched the party's youth wing national convention which will see a new Youth chief being appointed.
