'PN's move to topple unity govt a serious crime'- Perlis Umno

ARAU: The Perikatan Nasional (PN) move to topple the unity government is a serious crime by creating uncertainties and disturbing peace.

Perlis Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Rozabil Abd Rahman said this in response to Kedah PN chairman Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor's statement on Wednesday admitting that there were efforts to bring down the government.

"We (Perlis Umno) view repeated statements by Sanusi and other PN leaders on the plot to topple the government as a serious crime which may trigger uncertainties and disrupt public order.

"The biggest implication is on the investors' confidence, compromising efforts to draw investment despite efforts by the government to rejuvenate our economy and currency," he said in a statement.

Ironically, he said, this came at the same time the PN leadership was talking about the urgency for the government to step up efforts to rejuvenate the economy.

"However, what they are doing is clearly bending towards sabotaging the country's economy by portraying the unity government is ineffective in rejuvenating the economy.

"This economic sabotage creates continuous negative implications on the currency and poses a risk of driving up inflation while putting pressure on the people's purchasing power," he said.

Rozabil, who is also Arau Umno division chief, described all the actions by PN leaders pertaining to the issue as utterly irresponsible while creating hardship to Malaysians.

"Therefore, Perlis Umno calls for a halt of such public statements regarding this issue and calls for the government to take stern action if this act continues.

"If PN truly commands enough majority to form the government, they should deal directly with the Yang diPertuan Agong and the parliament and take over the government in a gentleman's manner. Don't sabotage the country's economy, don't put the people through hardship," he said.

On Wednesday, Sanusi who is also PN election director and Kedah Menteri Besar, confirmed that PN is working to topple the federal government through a democratic process permitted by the Federal Constitution.

Sanusi was reported as saying that the move was engineered through loopholes in the anti-hopping law made, used by the Madani government to woo the support of five members of parliament (MPs) from PN.

He also expressed confidence that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's administration would not last for the full term and could collapse anytime soon.
