Bersatu MP vows continued support for Madani govt despite potential seat loss

KOTA BARU: Mohd Azizi Abu Naim remains steadfast in his support for the Madani government, despite acknowledging the potential loss of his seat following the Registrar of Societies' (RoS) approval of the amendment to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (Bersatu) Constitution.

The Member of Parliament for Gua Musang said that the RoS decision affirmed the government's commitment to non-interference in agency or ministry management.

"I view the approval of Bersatu's amendment by RoS on April 1 as a serious matter, not merely an 'April Fool's Day' prank. Political parties have the right to adapt their constitution to current needs," he said.

Azizi congratulated Bersatu on the swift approval, emphasising that all MPs, including himself, must abide by the constitution while supporting the Madani government.

"As a Bersatu member, I respect every aspect of the party's constitution and reiterate my unwavering support for the Madani government," he affirmed.

The RoS' approval, announced yesterday, aimed to prevent members from defecting.

According to a document sighted by the NST, the new amendment came into effect on April 1.

Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal warned of action against MPs who refuse to withdraw their support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, potentially triggering by-elections.
