Include chess in Sukma 2020

LETTERS: Johor Darul Takzim has been given the honour of organising the 20th Sukma Games next year. Let us hope that it will be a memorable year for every Malaysian.

I suggest the organisers should also include chess among the many games scheduled for the competition.

Chess has gained much popularity, from the very young to senior citizens, not only in Malaysia but also in other parts of the world.

It is played in tournaments at schools, at national and international levels. It was included as one of the games at the recent SEA Games in Manila as it is very popular in the Philippines, which has some of the world’s best chess players.

Local chess player Yeoh Li Tian made our country proud by bagging gold in the men’s Rapid Chess competition. Syabas to Yeoh!

It is not difficult to organise chess games for the competition as we have expertise from the Malaysian Chess Federation which I am confident will render its full support towards this end.

I hope the organisers of Sukma 2020 consider my humble suggestion to include chess in the tournament and also promote it as a popular sport in the country.

Majulah sukan untuk negara.
