Sungai Buloh needs infrastructure masterplan

LETTERS: Due to the rapid growth in Sungai Buloh, most roads are congested, even during off-peak hours.

The infrastructure has not kept pace with development. It will be worse when Kwasa Damansara is developed.

Although the Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway can ease congestion in Kwasa Damansara, there are a few bottlenecks on other roads in Sungai Buloh. The Works Ministry needs to act urgently.

Jalan Welfare in Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh needs to be widened to ease the frequent congestion and to accommodate the many heavy vehicles heading to the nearby small and medium enterprise (SME) hub.

Jalan Baru, which was an alternative entry point, was closed in 2008, making Jalan Welfare the only access to this important SME hub and residential area.

To ease the congestion, a flyover can be built near the Shell petrol station to enable the Jalan Baru junction to be re-opened for heavy vehicles.

Vehicles exiting the Sungai Buloh toll plaza immediately enter a massive jam at the traffic light junction opposite Sierra Mas due to the sharp turn that heavy vehicles have to negotiate to head to Kepong or Damansara Damai.

There is a need for an infrastructure masterplan for Sungai Buloh as the surrounding areas are undergoing massive mixed development.

Piecemeal and short-term widening of roads cannot meet future traffic volume projections.

Even with the Electric Train Service, Mass Rapid Transit, Light Rain Transit and other public transport options, the number of vehicles is expected to increase in the Klang Valley.
