Let's not get bogged down by old politics

LETTERS: There is always something to comment on and complain about, especially if it's about politics.

For as long as I can remember, the country has always been in a state of flux because of political shenanigans.

Pre-2018, people complained mostly about corruption. Post-2018, that is still the case.

To me, it all boils down to one factor: nearly all political players have been brought up since the 1980s when (Tun) Dr Mahathir Mohamad was prime minister for more than two decades.

Dr Mahathir has always, more often than not, made an effort to guide us to be a better people and nation.

This is more or less the same with all prime ministers.

What we need are new faces, and not just in politics, to overcome challenges, such as the cost of living, economic growth, unemployment, traffic congestion, transportation and education.

Now we must add managing artificial intelligence, nurturing the digitalisation landscape, addressing climate change and tackling mental health.

We must also fulfil the needs and aspirations of the young.

Let's not get bogged down by old politics but let's build new politics, which is different and healthier than previous times.

Learn from the past and start tackling challenges for a better future. That's my message in conjunction with this year's Israk Mikraj and Chinese New Year.
