(Badminton) Wan Wah interested in coaching role

KUALA LUMPUR: Former national shuttler Lee Wan Wah is believed to be the leading candidate to fill the vacancy left by doubles coach Jeremy Gan.

National doubles head coach Cheah Soon Kit has been given the responsibility of selecting a replacement for Jeremy by the BA of Malaysia.

And he believes Wan Wah is the most suitable, based on his experience as a player. Wan Wah is also deemed as a candidate the current setup is comfortable working with.

Jeremy put in his resignation letter a fortnight ago and is currently serving his three months’ notice.

Wan Wah said he has yet to receive any offers from BAM, but made it clear he was willing to consider taking up the position.

“I can’t comment too much as I have not received anything yet. However, I am interested and ready to consider any offers,” he said when contacted today.

“I am willing to discuss the matter (with BAM) and if everything goes well, I might accept.”

Wan Wah, who is currently coaching players sponsored by Seri Mutiara Development Sdn Bhd, enjoyed a successful career with partner Choong Tan Fook.

The duo won bronze at the World Championships in 2001 and 2007 as well as the Commmonwealth Games gold in 1998.

Two other former national players, Chew Choon Eng and Chan Chong Ming, are also believed to be on BAM’s radar.

The national body is expected to make a decision this week.
