Malaysian women fall to South Korea in quarter-finals

ALOR STAR: The national women's squad's run in the Badminton Asia Team Championship came to an end today, when they lost 3-0 to South Korea in the quarter-finals.

Malaysia, however, have already secured a spot in the Uber Cup Finals in May in Bangkok, as one of the top eight Asian teams, based on overall ranking.

According to women's doubles shuttler Vivian Hoo, the team will head back to Kuala Lumpur to continue working on their consistency, so to match the other teams at the Uber Cup.

"We must work on our consistency because right now it's unpredictable. We play a good match, and then a bad one," said Vivian.

She felt that the women's team put up a fine performance throughout the competition.

"We didn't care if it was our singles or doubles that lost, we supported everybody the same as a team," added the 28-year-old.

Singles player Soniia Cheah echoed her teammates’ sentiments, assuring a much better showing in Bangkok.

"I am certain that we will play well in Bangkok. I too will do my best to improve myself before the trip," said Soniia, who lost 21-13, 21-10 in the first match to South Korea's No 1 Sung Ji Hyun.

Vivian, who played alongside scratch partner Tee Jing Yi, went down 21-10, 21-15 to Lee So Hee-Shin Seung Chan.

Former world junior champion Goh Jin Wei could not save the tie for Malaysia, when she succumbed to a 17-21, 21-11, 21-13 defeat to Lee Jang Mi.
