Badminton Asia stands by BWF in their fight against match-fixing

KUALA LUMPUR: Badminton Asia has vowed to help the Badminton World Federation (BWF) in any way possible to win the war against match-fixing.

Badminton Asia chief operating officer Kenny Goh, when contacted said, the Asian body are aware of the ongoing match-fixing scandal and are willing to do anything within their power to combat it.

"There is no good that can come out of match-fixing. In the long run, it only damages the sport as badminton will lose its credibility among other sports," said Kenny.

"We (Badminton Asia) are aware of the ongoing scandal, where two Malaysian shuttlers are under investigation by BWF.

“However, we have not been approached by the world body.

"Technically, players come under the member associations, so it was right for BWF to get in touch with the BA of Malaysia (BAM).

“We at Badminton Asia believe BWF will get to the bottom of this."

On whether Badminton Asia have come up with prevention methods to fight corruption in badminton, Kenny said: "I think BWF have got two ways, one is through their whistle blower system which is on their site, while I believe they also have a scientific way to detect match-fixing among players.”

"Like I said earlier, Badminton Asia will not tolerate any form of match manipulation and we will help BWF in fighting it."

The two independent shuttlers, investigated for match-fixing, will attend a BWF hearing in Singapore on Feb 26-27. They could be handed life bans if found guilty.
