BAM official to attend hearing on match-fixing in Singapore

KUALA LUMPUR: BAM council member, Jadadish Chandra, will not just observe the Badminton World Federation (BWF) hearing in Singapore this week on the two Malaysian shuttlers alleged to have fixed matches.

He is ready to bring back more information and will compile a comprehensive report for the BAM council.

"It's a step from our side to think of ways to combat match-fixing," said Jadadish, who is also part of BAM's rules and disciplinary committee.

The hearing for both the players will take place on Feb 26 and Feb 27.

"I will be there (Singapore) to observe the hearing and be a witness to the processes that will take place.

"At the hearing, we will be able to see the evidence that BWF have against these players, and how the players defend themselves.”

Jadadish said he will not be allowed to communicate in any way with the two players, though he will have access to all the documents.

"All the lawyers who attend the tribunal as an observer, with the permission of the chair person can also post questions."

Last week in an exclusive report, NSTP Sport revealed that a shuttler, who has played in major events such as the All England and World Championships, is under investigation by the BWF on allegations of match manipulation.

BAM later confirmed that not one but two professional players have been provisionally suspended from all competitions, pending an investigation.
