Choong Hann not wasting any time

KUALA LUMPUR: Not wanting to waste precious time, former international Wong Choong Hann will resume duty immediately at the BA of Malaysia (BAM), even when he is only required to report for duty on Jan 1.

Choong Hann's appointment as the new coaching director was officially announced by the national body on Saturday after the council meeting at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara.

It is learnt that Choong Hann will meet all five head coaches — Misbun Sidek (men's singles), Paulus Firman (men's doubles), Tey Seu Bock (women's singles), Rosman Razak (women's doubles), and Pang Cheh Chang (mixed doubles) — on Monday.

"I will meet coaching and training (C&T) committee chairman Datuk Ng Chin Chai, the head coaches and national coaches as soon as possible, hopefully by Monday, when I return from China.

"I want to gather as much information as possible to come up with a sustainable working plan.

“Planning should involve all key players.

"Working together as a team will be key to achieving our objectives," said Choong Hann.

Among the former World No 1's key performance indicator (KPI) is to realise the national team's 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games gold medal target.

"It is a huge responsibility to shoulder, but it is also something I expected having accepted the offer. However, it is still too early for me to comment much on it.

"I hope all parties can be patient with me. Just give me some time before I share more on our plans," added Choong Hann.
