Kashyap wants to move in with wife, Saina

KUALA LUMPUR: While India's Saina Nehwal is targeting to qualify for next year's Tokyo Olympics, her husband P.Kashyap is hoping to finally move in with his wife.

The 33-year-old men's singles shuttler, who tied the knot with his long time lover last year, admitted it has been a struggle to settle down due to tight competition schedule on both their ends.

After battling various injuries since winning the 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medal, Kashyap is slowly making a comeback.

On Wednesday, the independent shuttler fought hard before defeating Denmark's Rasmus Gemke 19-21, 21-19, 21-10 to reach the second round of the Malaysia Masters at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil.

The victory was so much sweeter for the World No 45 who had Saina supporting him from the back.

"Getting married was not a tough decision. We have been in love since our junior days," said Kashyap, who only made a return to competitive action in mid 2017.

"In fact, we have been holding off our plans to get married since the 2012 London Games.

"However, now that we're married, we have another problem... we still haven't moved in together.

"Of course I have been asking her to move in with me for a long time but you know being Indians, culturally it is not nice for us to do so before getting married.

"We purchased a flat in Hyderabad, but we still haven't moved in together, hopefully we'll do so by February," added Kashyap, who is also targeting to qualify for the Olympics next year.

Wishing the wedding would bring him more luck, Kashyap will take on Indonesia's No 1 Anthony Sinisuka Ginting on Thursday for a place in the quarter-finals.

Saina, who also cleared the first round on Wednesday, will play Hong Kong's Yip Pui Yin next.
