Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying will be eyeing for revenge when they face Indonesia’s Praveen Jordan-Melati Daeva Oktavianti in the mixed doubles final of the New Zealand Open in Auckland today.
Praveen-Melati, the fourth seeds, hold a 3-1 win-loss record over the second seeds who last defeated the Indonesian pair at last year’s Japan Open.
World No 5 Peng Soon-Liu Ying hope they can beat the ninth-ranked Praveen-Melati today for their second title of the year after the Thailand Masters in January.
In yesterday’s semifinals, Peng Soon-Liu Ying defeated Indonesia’s Hafiz Faizal-Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja 21-14, 22-18 while Praveen-Melati overcame Taiwan’s Wang Chi Lin-Cheng Chi Ya 21-12, 23-21.
“We are happy to reach the final of this tournament, which is the first event to offer Olympic ranking points for next year’s Tokyo edition.
“It will be a tough final as we do not have a good record against the Indonesian pair. However, we will not give up so easily during the final.
“I believe we can produce our best and achieve a good result,” said Liu Ying yesterday.
In the men’s doubles event, seventh seeds Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong were edged 21-19, 18-21, 21-14 by former world champions Mohamad Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan in the semi-finals.
