Play like champions, says Choong Hann

KUALA LUMPUR: BA of Malaysia (BAM) coaching director Wong Choong Hann has urged the national squad to ride on the momentum from their win against India as they take to court in the quarter-finals of the Sudirman Cup in Nanning, China.

Choong Hann believes the team spirit is at a high and it should be the motivation for the players to challenge themselves.

After losing 5-0 to China in the opening Group D tie on Sunday, the young Malaysian team upset India 3-2 on Tuesday.

Malaysia confirmed their spot in the last eight as group runners-up after champions China thrashed India 5-0 yesterday.

“The tie against India was a job well done. The players are all united and they are very focused.

“We want the players to ride on the momentum. Show our opponents that we are ready.

“We need to prove to them that one day we will stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the big teams," said Choong Hann on Wednesday.

The former World No 1 added that the young squad should use the quarter-finals as the best platform to prove themselves.

“It's all about the big players now as we are in the quarter-finals.

“We have to brace ourselves, regardless, but I also want to see the players challenging themselves. This is their time,” he added.
