BAM to show three coaches the door

While all eyes have been on the BAM versus Lee Zii Jia saga, the national body, it is learnt, are prepared to do away with three high profile coaches.

The grapevine has it that the contracts of men's singles coach Tey Seu Bock, women's singles head coach Indra Wijaya and mixed doubles head coach Paulus Firman won't be renewed.

Last year, BAM beefed up their coaching lineup by bringing in Indonesian legend Rexy Mainaky as doubles coaching director, while former international K.Yogendran is to assist men's singles head coach Hendrawan and Seu Bock.

However, soon after the arrival of both coaches, women's doubles head coach Chan Chong Ming tendered his resignation to seek greener pastures elsewhere.

Last month, BAM told singles coaching director Wong Choong Hann and Rexy to review the performances of both the players and coaches.

In an effort to streamline the revamped coaching structure, both Choong Hann and Rexy are expected to present their reports at the end of this month.

Seu Bock is the longest serving national coach among the three expected to be dropped. The 49-year-old is best remembered as the coach of former world No 1 Lee Chong Wei between 2010-2016.

Should these coaches leave, BAM will be left with Hendrawan and Yogendran for the men's singles, Loh Wei Sheng (women's singles), Flandy Limpele and Tan Bin Shen (men's doubles), Hoon Thien How (women's doubles), and Teo Kok Siang (mixed doubles).

It is understood that it remains status quo with the national junior squad, spearheaded by development director, Misbun Sidek.

Meanwhile, a proposal to lift the two-year ban on Zii Jia from participating in international tournaments will be submitted by the Youth and Sports Ministry in a meeting with BAM officials and the All England champion today.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said that he has listed several proposals to resolve the impasse between BAM and Zii Jia.
