Zii Jia gets Victor boost

World No 7 Lee Zii Jia has received a timely boost ahead of the All-England after signing a deal with badminton manufacturer Victor.

In an announcement by Victor on their official website, the Kedah-born will start using Victor equipment beginning with the German Open (March 8-13) and the All-England (March 16-20).

This will be the second time that Zii Jia will be under Victor.

He previously sported Victor apparel when the Taiwanese manufacturer sponsored the BA of Malaysia (BAM) from 2015-2020.

BAM are now under the Yonex banner after their deal with Victor ended in 2020.

Zii Jia, who left BAM last month to turn professional, joins a list of elite shuttlers such as world No 3 Anders Antonsen of Denmark and Indonesia's Olympic gold medallists Greysia Polii-Apriyani Rahayu under the Victor flagship.

"What really impressed me is Victor's professionalism and dedication," said Zii Jia yesterday.

"Victor's trust also makes me feel at home, and that is why I decided to join them."

With the Victor sponsorship, Zii Jia, who is now coached by Indonesian Indra Wijaya, can fully focus on his preparation for the All-England.

The 23-year-old is seeded sixth and faces Japan's world No 19 Kenta Nishimoto in the first round.

If he lives up to his seeding, he is expected to run into Japan's world No 2 Kento Momota in the quarter-finals.
