Pearly-Thinaah squander golden opportunity in Jakarta

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah squandered a brilliant opportunity to reach their maiden Super 500 final when they crashed out in the semi-finals of the Indonesia Masters in Jakarta today.

Pearly-Thinaah, who are slowly making their presence felt since breaking into the world's top 10 last month, let slip a one-game advantage, eventually succumbing 21-23, 21-14, 21-14 to Indonesia's Apriyani Rahayu-Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.

The Malaysians only have themselves to blame for the countless unforced errors after taking the first game.

The Indonesians, fresh from winning the Hanoi Sea Games title last month, will take on world No 1 and reigning world champions Chen Qing Chen-Jia Yi Fan of China in the final on Sunday.

The Chinese pair booked their spot after a 21-12, 21-13 win over South Korea's Jeong Na Eun-Kim Hye Jeong.
