KUALA LUMPUR: Seven teams will be fighting for honours in the second edition of the Allianz Media Badminton Open at the Sports Arena Sentosa here today.
This year's round-robin edition will feature New Straits Times, Allianz, The Star, Kosmo, Sinar Harian, China Press and Astro.
The tournament was supposed to be held annually, but was postponed in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"We always look forward to a game of badminton with our media friends. It has been two years since we last hosted this tournament," said Sean Wang, chief executive officer of Allianz Malaysia Bhd, who is also the team captain.
Allianz had their final training and sparring session in Sentosa last week in preparation for the tournament.
"We are all social but serious players, too. Hence, we decided to also make some preparations in anticipation for this tournament. Overall, I am pleased with our preparations and we hope to give our media friends a run for their money, so to speak."
