KUALA LUMPUR: Professional pairs Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai recorded their best outings this season when they reached the semi-finals of the Swiss Open on Friday.
World No 8 Yew Sin-Ee Yi secured their first win over last year's All England champions Muhammad Shobihul Fikri-Bagas Maulana by triumphing 21-16, 12- 21, 21-19 in a 61-minute men's doubles last-eight duel.
The victory made up for Yew Sin-Ee Yi's defeat to the same pair in the second round of All England last week.
The 2021 World Championships silver medallists will now attempt to reach their sixth career final in a World Tour-level event.
The last time Yew Sin-Ee Yi did was at the Australian Open last November, but they finished runners-up to China's Liu Yu Chen-Ou Xuan Yi.
In the mixed doubles, Soon Huat-Shevon Lai are just one step from making it to their second successive final in Basel after downing Thailand's Supak Jomkoh-Supissara Paewsampran 21-18, 21-18.
The result was certainly refreshing for the world No 11 as they have been struggling to maintain their form since their semi-final appearance at the Denmark Open.
Soon Huat-Shevon will face Dutch pair Robin Tabeling-Selena Piek, the world No 12, for a place in the final.
Tabeling-Selena, the last year's French Open finalists, ended Malaysian pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei's gallant run by prevailing 21-19, 19-21, 21-19 in a thrilling encounter.
It was also a sad end to Ng Tze Yong's campaign in the men's singles when he had to bow out in his battle against Taiwanese ace Chou Tien Chen through an injury.
After losing the first game 21-11 and trailing 2-0 in the second, Tze Yong decided that he was not in an ideal condition to go on.
It was later revealed by national singles coaching director Wong Choong Hann that Tze Yong picked up an inner thigh hamstring strain.
"(Inner thigh), it got swollen and became painful for him during lunges, making it difficult for him to retrieve the drop shots," said Choong Hann.
It wasn't immediately known how serious the injury was, and Tze Yong would find himself in a race against time to recover should he decide to play in the Spain Masters next week.
