Fatehah disqualified after crash in Manchester

KUALA LUMPUR: Track cyclist Fatehah Mustapa emerged unscathed following a crash involving four riders in the women's keirin final in Manchester on Saturday.

However, the Malaysian was disqualified for causing the crash also involving Germany's eventual champion Kristina Vogel, Australia's Stephanie Morton and Lithuania's Simona Krupeckaite with 200 metres left in the World Cup second series race.

However, a video recording showed that Stephanie had caused the collision.

Dutch riders Shanne Braspennincx and Laurine van Riessen took silver and bronze, respectively.

It is learnt that national coach John Beasley will lodge an appeal for Fatehah to be reinstated as a sixth-place relegation finisher.

"I am disappointed as I made it to the final only to crash. It is not my fault and I am not happy.

"I hope the race commissioner will change his mind when Beasley lodges an appeal.

"I was confident of finishing on the podium," said Fatehah.
