Selangor come from behind to upstage JDT 2-1 on home ground

KUALA LUMPUR: DARUL Ta'zim may have won their fourth straight Super League crown, but Selangor held the bragging rights when they edged the champions 2-1 at Selayang Stadium on Saturday.

Darul Ta'zim confirmed the league title with three matches to spare when second-place Kedah lost 2-1 to Pahang in Kuantan.

Selangor created more chances in the first half, but it was Darul Ta'zim who took the lead through Natxo Insa in the 39th minute.

The Spanish-born was unchallenged as he weighed his options and beat Selangor goalkeeper Norazlan Razali with a shot into the top left corner of the goalmouth for his third goal of the season.

Selangor striker Forkey Doe had two attempts saved by Darul Ta'zim goalkeeper Izham Tarmizi Roslan in the 30th and 44th minutes.

In the second half, Selangor pressed forward and came close through Amri Yahyah and Syahmi Safari in the 52nd and 53rd minutes respectively.

Selangor were finally rewarded for their tenacious play when Amri latched onto a pass and beat keeper Izham with a powerful drive from inside the penalty box to level in the 59th minute.

The moment came in the 77th minute when substitute Andik Vermansyah fired home a A.Namathevan pass to put Selangor ahead.

Selangor keeper Norazlan was a hero in the closing stages with several fine saves to deny Darul Ta'zim.

The win is Selangor's second over Darul Ta'zim in all competitions with the other match ending in a draw.
