KLFA have not decided on Maciel's future

KUALA LUMPUR: The future of Kuala Lumpur coach Fabio Maciel, who has been rested, has not been decided yet by the Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA).

According to team manager Datuk Kamaruddin Hassan, for now the Brazilian coach remains rested and he has not been dismissed.

He said that any decision as to whether Maciel will be retained or otherwise will be decided by the president and KLFA Exco.

“Maciel has only been rested, but he has come out and issued a statement like as though he has been fired. Prior to this I myself informed the players that Maciel has in fact been rested, and not dismissed.

“According to his employment contract, he cannot issue statements to the media, so when he has done just that, it is now up to the president and Exco to decide on his fate.

“Honestly we do not know for how long or until when he will be rested, as if the president says that Maciel is back in the fold, then he’s back in,” said Kamaruddin when contacted here earlier today (Wednesday).

KLFA decided to rest Maciel earlier this month and the decision is believed to have been made following the team’s inconsistent performance, especially after they were thrashed 1-5 by Terengganu in their first Malaysia Cup group match on August 4 (Saturday).

Following the move to rest him, Maciel claimed that KLFA acted less than professional by not holding a discussion with him first before acting against him.

Maciel’s position has been temporarily taken over by his assistant Chong Yee Fatt who managed to lead the team to a 4-1 victory over Felcra FC in their second Group A match on Sunday.

Speaking further on the matter, Kamaruddin did not discount the possibility that Yee Fatt could remain as interim coach until the end of this season if the team are able to maintain a consistent performance.
