Supporters group to dress as fisherman to spur Terengganu

MARANG: Supporters have their own way of showing their support for their respective teams, and this includes the Pok Ripin Supporters Club who will be dressing up as fisherman when they head to the Shah Alam Stadium for the Malaysia Cup final to support their beloved team Terengganu who will be facing Perak tomorrow night (Saturday).

The Pok Ripin Supporters Club entourage comprises of 44 diehard fans from Kampung Wakaf Dua and they will be clad as fisherman with Terengganu flags, and they will head to Shah Alam Stadium by bus in the hope that their team will emerge victorious against Perak for a repeat of the 2001 final when The Turtles last lifted the Malaysia Cup.

Arifin Mat Ali, 56, who is popularly known as Pok Ripin, said that all of them are eager and excited, and they can’t wait for the final to take place.

"We wanted to come and support Terengganu slightly differently compared to the rest of The Turtles fans’, so we decided to attend the final dressed as fisherman, as our beloved east coast state is well known for its fishing industry.

"We will be wearing batik as part of our garb as it is very much part of Terengganu’s traditional identity and image, and we’ll be promoting batik which is a product of traditional local industry at the same time,” said Pok Ripin when met before they departed for Shah Alam at 3pm earlier today (Friday).

Pok Ripin said that apart from being happy that Terengganu qualified for the final after they managed to get past defending champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) 3-2 on aggregate, they had already made plans to go for this year’s Malaysia Cup final as they were confident that their beloved team would make it.

"We had already booked the bus to take us to Shah Alam Stadium and we had also prepared our clothing, flags and other essentials because we are staunch Terengganu fans and we believe in our team.
