Four FAM Cup teams looking at going up

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Football League (MFL) have confirmed that there are only eight teams that have registered to compete in the Premier League for next season.

This follows MIFA being suggested as a replacement for Felcra FC in the Super League while UKM FC have yet to provide confirmation on their participation to compete.

So far, MFL have received confirmation of participation from Negri Sembilan, Kelantan, MIFA, Johor Darul Ta’zim II (JDT II), Police, Sabah, Sarawak, UiTM FC and Penang.

The UKM team have sent an official letter to MFL on Thursday requesting for a deferment in the confirmation period for participation to November 29 (Thursday).

However, MFL’s board of directors have decided not to allow for such a deferment and therefore UKM can only make an appeal within seven working days.

“MFL’s board of directors have made the right decision. Team must take confirmation of participation seriously.

“In fact, teams have been given time of almost one month to do so,” said MFL chief executive officer Kevin Ramalingam yesterday (Friday).

Following this, to fulfil the 12 slots for competing teams, the FA of Malaysia (FAM) will propose four teams from the FAM Cup to be promoted to the Premier League.

Based on qualification, last season’s FAM Cup champions and runners-up, Terengganu City and Selangor United have already been automatically promoted to the Premier League for next season.
