Syahmi is Selangor's most valuable player

KUALA LUMPUR: The FA of Selangor (FAS) have tied up their players with release clauses valued between RM3 million and RM6 million for the new M-League season to discourage other teams from tapping up their stars.

Right-back Syahmi Safari, who helped Malaysia reach the final of last year’s AFF Cup, is the most valuable player with a release clause of RM6 million.

“We used a template introduced by the FA of Malaysia (FAM) in 2017 to tie up our players with strong contracts. All of them have release clauses,” said FAS secretary Dr Johan Kamal Hamidon.

“Syahmi is our most valuable player and his release clause is RM6 million.

“The new contracts not only protect our players, but also the club, who will not lose out after spending a lot on developing them.”

Johan said the (controversial) issue surrounding Akhyar Rashid’s departure from Kedah to Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) should be taken as a lesson by other teams.

“I heard Kedah are still using FAM’s old template as a guide to sign players. I hope other teams will adopt the new template which has a release clause,” he added.

Akhyar, 19, signed a four-year contract with JDT with a RM12 million release clauses recently.

Kedah want to take JDT to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for tapping up Akhyar when he was still contracted with them.
