MFL assures stakeholders annual grant money will come

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Football League (MFL) has assured its 23 stakeholders that this year’s annual grant will be paid out, although it is still in discussion about announcing the new sponsor for the Malaysia League (M-League).

MFL chief executive officer Kevin Ramalingam said it was unfair to sensationalise the issue and blame MFL for the delay as the teams should not be facing financial difficulties at this early stage of the season.

“The grant distributed to the Super League and Premier League teams constitutes just 15 to 20 per cent of their overall expenditure,” he said today, adding that teams should have locked in at least 75 to 80 per cent of their funds to manage their teams at this early stage of the season.

“I can understand their situation if they have not received their grants by the end of the year, but don’t raise this issue so early in the season,” he said.

On March 15, MFL officially announced its decision to end the sponsorship contract with Telekom Malaysia (TM), which was signed in January last year, after arriving at a consensus in a meeting of its board members. Bernama
