As clubs struggle, MFL plays a different game

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Football League (MFL) has admitted that many of its clubs are struggling to find good investors.

However, MFL chief executive officer Datuk Stuart Ramalingam said he doesn't want to make a direct comparison between getting investors and growing the commercial value of the M-League.

"Getting investors for a club is very different than growing a league's commercial value.

"Although I don't run clubs or try to look for investors, I think it wouldn't be right for me to comment on that.

"But I do frequently speak to Stanley (Bernard, KL City chief executive officer) and try to understand the struggles face by a club like KL City," said Stuart.

Yesterday, Stanley has expressed his frustrations over the lack of investors and sponsors in the KL City team.

Adding to KL's financial gloom will be the fact that the M-League season will be revamped and held over two years like the European calendar from next year.

This means more expenses - longer contracts with players and coaches - for M-League teams as the league will be held over 15 months unlike the present season of January to December.
