Omosuyi determined to see Selangor in final

Selangor striker Ifedayo Omosuyi has vowed to embarrass Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) in today’s semi-final return leg of the Malaysia Cup.

The Nigerian is still unhappy with some of the refereeing decisions in the first leg in Larkin, which Selangor lost 2-1, and now he wants to settle the score at Shah Alam Stadium.

Omosuyi, who joined Selangor in May as a replacement for Spaniard Rufino Segovia, is the Red Giants’ leading scorer with 16 goals.

“I have to be sincere. There were several questionable decisions in the first leg. I was very angry after the final whistle. I felt Selangor deserved at least a draw on that day,” said Omosuyi in Shah Alam yesterday.

“We created more chances than JDT. I scored a goal while another two attempts rattled the JDT crossbar. In football, we don’t win matches by the number of chances we create. It is about scoring goals.

“I hope the refereeing decisions tomorrow (today) will be fair to both teams. Selangor really want this title. We will fight and prove our quality by beating JDT.”

Omosuyi reiterated: “If Selangor do enough to warrant a win, then the concerned parties should let it happen. In football, everyone needs to be fair with their decisions.

“We are playing tomorrow for a spot in the final, and nothing will hold us back from achieving our target.”

Omosuyi is no stranger in the M-League. He played for Felda United in 2017 and scored nine goals in 17 games. He also did well for Melaka last year when he ended the season with 14 goals in 15 games.

“Everyone is motivated for the match. I heard the stadium will be full, and I hope this will inspire us to victory. We will definitely perform better tomorrow than we did in Larkin.

“However, JDT are a complete team and we will be in for the tough game. Many thought we wouldn’t reach this far following a slow start to the season, so let’s go one better by reaching the final,” said the 28-year-old.

On the absence of Endrick dos Santos, the striker said the Brazilian will be missed but Selangor have able replacements.

“We have many quality players in the squad, and I think his absence will not affect our game,” he added.
