M-League kick-off delayed due to ECP

THE new M-League season will only start on Feb 28 with the Charity Shield match between reigning Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and last season’s FA Cup winners Kedah in Larkin.

The slight delay is due to the introduction of the Economic Control Programme (ECP).

The programme is being implemented to ensure that M-League clubs sign players within their financial means.

MFL hope the implementation of the ECP will restrict clubs from spending over their budgets in the bid to end salary issues and other financial problems.

All clubs will have to submit their roster budgets to the Malaysia Football League (MFL) by tomorrow. The MFL will come up with an approval list by Jan 15.

The league season will end on July 19.

The transfer window for the new season opens on Jan 16 and will close on March 15.
