Putra, Fitri best choice for Satiananthan

SELANGOR coach B. Satiananthan needs a quality left-back ahead of the new M-League season.

Former internationals Asraruddin Putra Omar and Fitri Omar are among the options to fill the void.

The duo have been training with the Selangor team in Shah Alam since last week.

New signing Nor Hakim Hassan was an option for the left-back position but he is not expected to feature following an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury recently.

The 61-year-old trainer is leaving it to the FA of Selangor (FAS) to decide on new signings.

‘It is up to the management as I am not the paymaster. What I need are players as options,” he said.

FAS secretary-general Dr Johan Kamal Hamidon had indicated that any reinforcement would only come from their feeder team, Selangor II.

However, Satiananthan said options could be short from Selangor II as national Under-19 coach Brad Maloney is already planning to call up some of the players.

‘There are available youngsters at Selangor II, but I believe Maloney would want players like Ahmad Zikri Khalili for international assignments.

‘It would affect my team’s preparation if a player is always absent.

‘We need back-up players, and we cannot depend on Selangor II to provide them. I was asked by the FA of Malaysia (FAM) coaches on whether I would release players for centralised training, I told them it is for the FAS management to decide.

On Nor Hakim’s status, the coach declined to comment whether the 29-year-old will be replaced ahead of the new season.
